TTK GmbH, in collaboration with PTV TC, conducted a study on behalf of the state of Saxony-Anhalt and the Nahverkehrsgesellschaft NASA concerning the reactivation of the Bitterfeld – Stumsdorf railway line, also known as the ‘Saftbahn’.
As part of this study, four reactivation options were examined. The results show that the complete reopening of the Bitterfeld–Zörbig–Stumsdorf line, combined with the extension of the S2 line from Leipzig via Bitterfeld, Zörbig and Stumsdorf to Köthen, presents a favourable cost-benefit ratio.
The study also emphasises that, in order to make the line attractive to passengers, a minimum speed of 80 km/h and full electrification of the line would be necessary.
These conclusions provide concrete elements for future planning and open up new perspectives for the development of regional rail transport.
