An Important Milestone for Accessibility in Karlsruhe’s Bus Network

With the completion and handover of the Breslauer Straße and Schneidemühler Straße bus stops in Karlsruhe’s Waldstadt district in May 2026, TTK’s construction supervision team delivered the last four upgraded bus platforms designed to be fully accessible for persons with reduced mobility. These improvements were carried out on behalf of the City of Karlsruhe and the public transport operator VBK (Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe).
This milestone marks the successful completion of three major bus stop modernisation programmes (2018, 2019 and 2020) implemented by the City of Karlsruhe’s Civil Engineering Department. In total, the programmes covered 66 bus stops across the city. In addition to improving accessibility, the works included the reconstruction of adjacent roadways, sidewalks and cycling facilities, as well as the renewal of surface pavements.
Since 2017, TTK has supported these programmes throughout all project phases. Our teams were responsible for transport infrastructure planning from the initial design stages through to construction, as well as project scheduling, coordination and construction management. We also provided on-site construction supervision and prepared traffic management and signage plans to ensure mobility was maintained throughout the works.

Through this long-term assignment at the heart of Karlsruhe’s urban transport network, TTK has contributed to improving both accessibility and the overall quality of public transport, making the bus network more convenient and inclusive for all users.
