Reopening of railway lines in Baden-Württemberg

The reopening of disused railway lines for daily passenger transport is an essential part of the strategy of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg to double the use of public transport by 2030. A comparative potential analysis by our shareholder PTV Transport Consult GmbH identified a relevant passenger potential for 30 out of 42 lines, needing further study. From this list of possible reopening prospects, TTK is investigating the operational and infrastructural feasibility of the following railway lines:

• Schopfheim – Bad Säckingen (Wehratalbahn)
• Lauchringen – Weizen (Wutachtalbahn)
• Waldenburg – Künzelsau (Kochertalbahn)
• Rastatt – Wintersdorf – Hagenau
• Marbach – Beinstein – Heilbronn (Bottwartalbahn)
• Lauffen(Neckar) – Zaberfeld (Zabergäubahn)

All feasibility studies are being carried out in cooperation with PTV Transport Consult GmbH. The first three feasibility studies mentioned above are also being carried out in accordance with the new funding principles of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport. In the Rastatt - Hagenau rail link feasibility study, TTK is the main contractor in a German-French consortium with the additional partners Schüßler-Plan, Ingérop, komodite and Cloix&Mendes-Gil. Within each feasibility study, the development of operational concepts are done alongside the identification of the line layouts and the analysis of their structural feasibility. This iterative approach allows for the development of optimised railway service concepts.

Based on the experienc and know-how of 25 years of reopening projects, TTK is currently developing a reactivation guideline in the scope of the DZSF(German Research Centre for Railway Transport) research project "Accompanying measures for the reopening of railway lines" (See link)

We are pleased to combine theory with practice within the framework of this research project.
