Metzingen Station

The successful commissioning of the new infrastructure in Metzingen (Germany) marks an important step toward a more efficient and future-ready regional rail system.
On behalf of Erms-Neckar-Bahn AG, TTK supported the implementation of major infrastructure measures at Metzingen station.
The objective of the project was to increase the station’s capacity and reliability while enabling more frequent services and improved regional connectivity.
Key elements of the project included the construction of a new outer platform, the expansion of the track layout with several new turnouts, and the commissioning of a modern electronic interlocking system. The works covered multiple disciplines, including track works, overhead line equipment, signalling and control systems, telecommunications, and power supply.
One of the main challenges was implementing the measures under ongoing rail operations and within a tightly scheduled full closure period. A strong focus was placed on long-term operational flexibility, accessibility, and safe passenger flows.

The project was delivered in close cooperation with experienced project partners and all involved stakeholders. Planning and implementation extended over several years and culminated in the successful commissioning in December 2025. With the completion of the measures, Metzingen station is now fully prepared for the introduction of a half-hourly service on the Ermstal line. The project represents a significant contribution to the Regional Stadtbahn Neckar-Alb and to sustainable mobility in the region.
